DR Congo families live among ruins three days after deadly Bukavu fire

Families in Bukavu are living amid the debris of a fire that killed at least 29 people, most of them children, as authorities bar reconstruction until urban planning teams assess the damage. Survivors like Bienfait Lujanga and Yvette Mwabirinda, both parents of large families, have been left homeless, relying on temporary shelter. Schools deemed unsafe have also been shut. A collective burial for the victims, including nine-year-old Cynthia Luaboshi, took place on Monday as the community mourns and awaits permission to rebuild.
