Concerns proposed housing in Melbourne's west too close to pubs with pokies

A fledgling political party aiming to take ground in Melbourne's west at the state election says tougher pokies reform is needed to protect local communities. Locals living near a proposed housing development in the area are concerned about its proximity to pubs with high poker machine losses. Victorians lost $3.3 billion on the pokies last financial year but nowhere was that loss more pronounced than Brimbank, in the city's west, where punters lost $185 million more than anywhere else.
