Gastech 2026: More pipelines bypassing Strait of Hormuz will be built, says Baker Hughes CEO

More pipelines and other energy infrastructure that avoid the Strait of Hormuz are likely to be built as countries seek to strengthen their energy security, according to Lorenzo Simonelli, chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes, an energy technology and services company. Speaking to CNA’s Roland Lim at Gastech 2026 in Bangkok, Simonelli says projects involving new sites and alternative pipelines are already taking shape. He adds that the Middle East will remain a key source of global energy, while demand is continuing to grow, fuelled in part by AI and data centres.
