Former Kosovo president Hashim Thaci guilty of war crimes after landmark trial

There have been protests in Kosovo after former President Hashim Thaci was sentenced to 25 years in prison by a tribunal in The Hague. He was convicted of war crimes committed while serving as a commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) during the 1998-99 Kosovo conflict, which was fought between Serbian forces and ethnic Albanian insurgents seeking independence from Serbia.
