DR Congo protests grow over fears Tshisekedi could seek a third term

Protesters in the Democratic Republic of Congo have again taken to the streets over proposed constitutional changes, which critics say could allow President Felix Tshisekedi to seek a third term beyond 2028. Parliament passed legislation in June outlining a referendum framework, though the Constitutional Court flagged concerns before ruling it compatible with the constitution. Tshisekedi denies seeking to extend his rule but has suggested ongoing insecurity in the east, where M23 rebels control territory, could delay elections altogether. Al Jazeera’s Cara Legg reports.
